Watch out for Louisiana. Why? Because Ashley Hebert is an amazing beauty queen. And why is she an amazing beauty queen? The answer is simple. Not only is she talented, but she is also the type that resonates with people, that leaves them with an understanding that they, too, can live a life of purpose and value. In short, there is an IT and she’s got IT. They say there is something about Southern hospitality, and this week we wanted to ask the lady who knows all about it. “5 Questions” is happy to keep up with the newly crowned Miss Louisiana International 2013 Ashley Hebert.1)What sparked your interest in pageants and how did you break into the industry?
Pageantry was not something I ever thought I would get in to. I did not grow up doing pageantry, but I am definitely hooked! I was in a near fatal car accident four years ago, and since that moment, I have strived to be the best at everything I am a part of. (I strive) to actively try new things and gain new experiences. Pageantry was one of those things and I was blessed to win the state title of Miss Black Louisiana USA 2012.
Pageantry is such an adrenaline rush! To impact your community, actually make a difference through your title, and bring attention to issues through your platform is amazing. But, it’s also a humbling experience that shows you what is really important in life. I’ve learned so much about others and even more about myself.
2)Congratulations on your new title! How do you manage a busy life with your pageant obligations and how are you preparing for your upcoming competition?
Thank you so much! I am thrilled to begin this new chapter of my life with a new and exciting title. Dealing with pageant obligations is all about time management. I often find that I am scheduling my life away sometimes, so it is so important to stay organized and not take on more than you can handle. You have to have a limit! In my mind, I truly feel like Wonder Woman at times, but even Wonder Woman needs help at times. It is so important to have a relationship with God and family when stress gets to be too much. My mother is the ultimate Pageant Mom and she really helps to keep my head on straight during a “pageant meltdown.”

To prepare for my upcoming pageant, I am actively fundraising and doing community service projects throughout the state. It is also important to brand yourself as queen in a number of ways, so I have partnered with two non-profit organizations whose missions mirror my platform of improving education in the state of Louisiana.
3)What was the best piece of advice someone gave you, and what advice do you have for any girls getting into pageantry?

The best piece of advice I ever received was: “Faith in God includes faith in His timing.” Although you may want something NOW, it may not be your time. Trust that when your time comes, it’s your time to shine. For girls getting into pageantry, remain humble, and work for the cause, NOT the applause.
4)What was your best Halloween costume and what will it be this year?
I’m actually not a big Halloween person, but this year I have decided to go as Princess Jasmine and I have conned my boyfriend into being my Aladdin!
5)What’s next for you?
Continuing to prepare for the 2013 Miss International Pageant. I am proud to represent the great state of Louisiana and plan to bring the title home for the first time in history.
